The water industry provides drinking water and wastewater services (including sewage treatment) to households and industry.

Overview

The modern water industry operates sophisticated and costly water and wastewater networks and sewage treatment plants, and typically consumes 1-2% of GDP. It is generally a natural monopoly, and as a result is usually run as a public service by a public utility which is owned by local or national government. In some countries, notably France, the UK and the Czech Republic, the water industry is regulated but services are largely operated by private companies with exclusive rights for a limited period and a well-defined geographical space.

Organizational structure

There are a variety of organizational structures for the water industry, with countries usually having one dominant traditional structure, which usually changes only gradually over time.

They shut off my hot water because I couldnt pay the utility bill?
Q. Where can I take a hot shower for free for the rest of the week until can afford to get it turned on. I dont have any friends in the area and i dont have a membership to any gyms.

A. Try a hospital or a university. They might have facilities you can use for free. Alternatively, you can have a sponge bath and boil the kettle. I grew up in the mountains, and our power would go off all the time. No power = no hot water. We had sponge baths with water we heated on the stove. Not great for long stretches of time, but it'll do for a week.

Can I legally run utility's "Water" on a granted right of ingres and egress?
Q. Can I legally run utility's "Water" on a granted right of ingres and egress?

A. No, probably not. That would require a different easement. The right of ingress and egress is the right of access to your property. Say, you property was land-locked and you did not border a street. Ingress and egress gives you the right to cross a neighbor's property to get you yours. The easement prohibits them from blocking you or placing obstacles to your access. However, if you have the easement documents available, you can scrutinize them to find if such an easement has been granted. In some cases, the easement may be unusually broad and grant you an easement for utilities. Now, everything said, you may be able to get an easement for utilities for little of nothing. It could simply cost you the price of reseeding the ground. Some… [cont.]
