FrenchNouninfrastructure f. (plural infrastructures)
From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Infrastructure is the basic physical and organizational structures needed for the operation of a society or enterprise, or the services and facilities necessary for an economy to function. The term typically refers to the technical structures that support a society, such as roads, water supply, sewers, power grids, telecommunications, and so forth. Viewed functionally, infrastructure facilitates the production of goods and services; for example, roads enable the transport of raw materials to a factory, and also for the distribution of finished products to markets. In some contexts, the term may also include basic social services such as schools and hospitals. In military parlance, the term refers to the buildings and permanent installations necessary for the support, redeployment, and operation of military forces. In this article, infrastructure will be used in the sense of technical structures or physical networks that support society, unless specified otherwise. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License How much does it cost to put in "infrastructure" for building a house? Q. I'm considering purchasing a fairly large, undeveloped plot of land (around 16 acres) in San Diego county to build my own house. How much would it cost to put in the infrastructure for it? (e.g. electric, water, gas, sewage, paved roads) I'm just looking for VERY approximated guesses. If someone were to tell me $1000, $10,000, or $100,000, I wouldn't be able to say which were closest to reality. Also, what kind of time frame would we be looking at? Thanks in advance. P.S. If you'd like to recommend a construction company to handle this type of this, I'd appreciate that too. Asked by henrytut2 - Sat Jul 14 21:16:30 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. The costs on these things very greatly ,depending on your local. Also things such as the properties accessability ,how far away the workforce needed is ,area ordinaces, local permit fees, impact fees all affect the costs. A local general contractor will be able to give you accurate cost estimates. Q. What is the relationship between the provision of infrastructure in a modern city and sustainability currently and what needs to be done in the future to make it more sustainable? -engineering student Asked by Janeyy - Wed Apr 1 01:17:21 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Currently it's generally a negative relationship. Far more resources go into infrastructure than can be replaced in x amount of time. In the future infrastructure should be designed to last longer so we don't need to use more resources to add to, replace, or upgrade facilities and we should look at using more easily sustainable resources. Q. The Messiah claims 2 million new jobs rebuilding our infrastructure. Can you just see it now million of Obama voters putting down their Starbucks lattes, getting up at 5:30am to be on a construction job site to rebuild our roads and bridges...what a wet dream. Asked by hillarysclam - Mon Nov 24 16:27:07 2008 - - 16 Answers - 0 Comments A. Obama voters would not work at Starbucks. They would make more money staying home collecting welfare. 5:30 AM? , they don't get up until noon, then it'll be time for lunch. Don't forget dinner is at 6 PM.
